“Nicole Long is the best! Our family has had a lot of changes -- new baby, death of a parent, new business for me and new job for my partner, cross-country move, our first home. We got unlucky with our first accountant a couple years ago. We found out with Nicole's help that that first accountant hadn't actually submitted our taxes or years' taxes for the parent who'd passed away. Oh no! We also got an IRS notice about a mistake I'd while DIYing taxes earlier. Double oh no!

When I first opened my business, I had a very basic knowledge of tax preparation and bookkeeping, which I thought would be enough to get me by. It was not. As a small business owner, I want to have a good accountant that knows what they are doing and also is not charging me as much as a giant company would be charged. Breath and taxes has been a breath of fresh air after paying way more than I needed for accounting previously. Nicole cares about her clients and tailors what she offers to them so that they feel comfortable with her services. Nicole charges appropriately but also is much more affordable than what I was previously paying a company to do. Nicole has firm boundaries on her time, which I like. She dedicates herself to her work and then also unplugs so she is available at the capacity she needs to be for her clients. A message from Nicole
I created Breath and Taxes to be different than the average accountant, one that was historically white and male. Replicating the care and support from my own therapy, I wanted to provide a service that both educates and empowers every person that I come in contact with. Receiving feedback, let alone positive ones, is a gift. For folks to take the time out of their day to write meaningful messages about the work I do means so much and validates that I’m doing what I sought out to do. Though tax preparation has not been considered a healing field, I hope to bring the therapeutic practices I’ve learned from my own work into this space, to heal the often traumatic financial harm and fear people experience on a regular basis. I dream of a place where communities make financial decisions with intention, informed consent and others in mind.
